Revolut was selected as one of 36 payment service providers participating in the European Central Bank’s digital euro pilot programme.

The 12-month pilot is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027 and will test the digital currency’s technical functionality, operating processes and user experience. Participants also include Deutsche Bank and UniCredit. The ECB is targeting a potential digital euro launch in 2029, subject to the adoption of the required European legislation.
